First Night of PBA Experience League (Cheetah)

Friday, May 16, 2008, 11:11 AM PST [League]

This past Tuesday night was my first night in the PBA Experience League Doubles over @ Golden Pin Lanes.  The format is that we bowl 4 games across 4 pairs.  The meeting to decide some of the rules, scoring format, side pots, etc. took almost an hour.  Than we got to the lanes.  In practice, it looked very similar to the house shot here as you needed to get it all the way to the gutter, otherwise it would just slide, mainly because the lanes are brand new Anvilane pros, which are very hard and play much slicker compared to the AMF surfaces most of us are used to here.  I had a pretty good look with the same Resurgence that I had used on the house shot the previous Tuesday.  I shot 214 the first game and felt pretty good although the traffic was forcing me further left than I wanted to play.  The second and thrid games were both train wrecks (173 and 150)  as I missed several easy spares and had a hard time stiking.  I switched to my Momentum for the last game and shot 229 with another easy spare missed. Basically, I learned 2 things tonight, I need to shoot my spares harder and straighhter than I have been on house shots and I need to understand that lane traffic plays a much bigger role on PBA patterns than it does on a THS especially when the opponents are using balls that absorb a ton of oil.   But 766 isn't bad for the 1st week, it's just not as good as I was hoping for.
